How Your Deepest Moments of Isolation Directs You to Your Next Chapter of Growth
Just because you don’t see meaning in your life, doesn’t mean it does not exist.
“If you go deeper and deeper into your own heart, you’ll be living in a world with less fear, isolation and loneliness.”
— Sharon Salzberg
Have you ever read a book that consumed you completely? Where the story had such a profound impact on your life, you had to sit in silence once you reached its end?
Have you ever met people whom you thought would forever be with you, only to realise that when things got tough, they chose to walk away rather than find a way to deal with the troubling situation?
Have you ever faced a life-altering truth that changed everything you believed in? Where you started questioning everything and wondered why is this happening to you?
Probably, we all must have faced all the above at some point in our lives. But what we must stop and reflect on is how these life-changing events altered our mindset, elevated our emotional intelligence and made us more resilient.
When this happens, you have to let go of a lot of things such as:
· People will walk away.
· You may not be interested in things that you were before.
· You cannot connect with everyone and can only confide in a few.
· You begin to look at life from a different perspective that may not be perceived well by others.
· You don’t like trivial conversations anymore and only look for conversations with deep meaning.
When you reach this mindset in your life, you may feel incredibly lonely. You feel that there is something wrong with you as people you once knew don’t matter to you anymore. You feel like everyone is walking away. But the truth is, you cannot take everyone ahead with you when you are growing emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Growth often leads to shedding away past baggage. You must let go of that version of you that no longer serves you. It’s like a snake shedding its skin and you transform into a new you with new values, beliefs and mindset.
As time goes by, we change. This change is caused by the circumstances that surround our life. This change can feel overwhelming. Like a sinking feeling in your stomach that refuses to go away. You begin to question everything and nothing seems to make you happy.
These moments of isolation can drive you insane. But remember, only you can get yourself out of this dark tunnel. All you have to do is keep walking even though you don’t see a point or outcome.
With each passing day, this sinking feeling gets better. As you push through each day, you start finding things, books and activities that give you even an iota of hope and happiness.
Stick to that one percent of hope that you find through this tough journey. It may not seem like things are changing for you, but trust me they are.
Growth feels like this. It feels like it is sucking every drop of energy from you. But it is also directing you to your intended path. So don’t give up when nothing makes sense. Don’t give up just because today you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t give up because you feel happiness will never knock on your door. Just push through, have faith and find meaning in whatever way possible. And before you know it, you will find happiness again, you will find hope again and you will find a new purpose. Just wait.
Thanks so much for your time!
