An Open Letter to Medium

Waiting for my seat in the Medium Partner Program

Dear Medium,

I joined Medium somewhere in the middle of December 2020. Before joining, I did know about the Medium Partner Program (MPP) and how Indian writers must wait for their turn. Stripe has kept India in the preview mode, and thus I decided to wait.

To state a trivia, when you Google ‘Medium’, on the right-hand side, the launch date is the 15th of August. I am sure you are aware that on the 15th of August, India celebrates Independence Day, however the irony is Indians do not have the freedom to join the MPP. At least not in the prescribed way.

So, what do I mean by ‘the prescribed way’?

As I was conducting some research on Google to find out if some good Samaritan had written something about how long Indian writers will have to wait till we get our rightful seat at the MPP table, I came across this post.

Now, I am sure that many Indians have given up on their patience level and are now earning for their hard work this way, but the question is, why resort to such means in the first place?

Why not follow the road like all other members and sign up without having to take other means to get there?

I for one, could happily use this method, but I choose not to. Because I know the potential and creativity that Indian writers possess, and they deserve to have the ease of enrolling for MPP just as the other talented authors do.

So, Medium, if you are reading this and I hope you do, please consider my request. I am sure that there are countless others waiting in line to enter the MPP with ease just as others can.

Till then the wait is on.

Thank you,

From a hopeful Indian writer who wishes to sign up for MPP. (The prescribed way).
